A FUND-RAISING campaign has been launched for incarcerated Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) politician Job Sikhala’s urgent medical needs.
NewsDay’s sister publication, The Standard, on Sunday broke the news of Sikhala’s deteriorating health.
The fundraising campaign, dubbed Go-Fund Initiative, was organised by Estelle Adams-Stone under the medical category and is targeting to raise £5 000 (US$6 133).
As of yesterday, the fund was sitting on £570 (US$699).
“Job Sikhala is a Zimbabwean veteran opposition politician and lawyer who has been in prison without a custodial conviction for over 483 days as of October 9, 2023,” Adam-Stone said.
“He has been denied bail although bail is a constitutional right. Sikhala is now seriously sick, and his family is financially struggling for the bare minimum.
“This Go-Fund is to help his family with day-to-day needs and the medication that Job Sikhala needs.
“Please give whatever you can to assist this man who has been persecuted repeatedly for standing up for his people’s rights and freedom.”

Local donations will be made directly to Sikhala’s wife, Ellen, on her EcoCash number 0779 496 669.
Sikhala was arrested in June last year in connection with the violence which erupted at the funeral wake of slain party activist, Moreblessing Ali.
He also faces an additional charge of disorderly conduct and obstructing the course of justice.
Sikhala has been denied bail several times.
Last year, Zimbabweans petitioned President Emmerson Mnangagwa to intervene and secure Sikhala’s release.
However, government officials said Mnangagwa could not intervene in respect of the principle of separation of powers between the Executive and the Judiciary.
CCC leader Nelson Chamisa on Monday made fresh calls for Sikhala’s release from Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison calling on leaders in the Southern African Development Community to intervene.
