The mobile clinic was organised by Chinese gold Miner, Ming Chang Sino Africa (Ming Chang), and targeted villagers in and around Shamva.

Hundreds of villagers on Tuesday  flocked to Shamva for free medical diagnosis and treatment by an eleven member Chinese medical team which has been in the country since March.

The mobile clinic was organised by Chinese gold Miner, Ming Chang Sino Africa (Ming Chang), and targeted villagers in and around Shamva.

The Chinese team  led by chief of medical unit Zhang Yao, conducted brief lectures on malaria, HIV and Aids as well as first aid.

“We have been in Zimbabwe since March and we are the 20th mission on this long standing government to government programme which has been running for 38 years now,” Yao said.

“We are working and moving around hospitals, sometimes supporting clinics and hospitals as ordinary outpatients department (OPD) support and sometimes we share ideas  around traditional Chinese medicine while looking at opportunities to expand departments in Zimbabwe’s health system. "

Ming Chang general Manager, Liang Guo Du said the outreach was part of the company’s growing social responsibility portfolio which includes road construction and rehabilitation.

Du said they also donated drugs and traditional medicine as well as provided transport to hundreds of villagers  from Bindura and Mazoe to Shamva to receive free medical health care.

“Villages from nearby are being assisted to reach referral centers by Ming Chang and the plan is to bring the medical team back or send it to a different area so that people get free medical care,” he added.

The outreach follows the opening of the Zimbabwe-China traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture centre at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare in 2020.

The TCM was officially opened by Vice President Consantino Chiwega.
