A FORTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD Harare Municipal Medical Aid Society (HMMAS) assistant accountant was last week arrested and appeared before Harare Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa for allegedly embezzling US$7 000.
Lamson Risinamhodzi was remanded out of custody to October 10 on US$ 200 bail.
The complainant in the matter HMMAS, a City of Harare subsidiary.
Circumstances are that from 2013 to October 2014, Risinamhodzi collected money from the City of Harare finance department. The court heard that Risinamhodzi would sign cash acknowledgement receipts generated by the City of Harare as proof of payment on behalf of HMMAS.
On receiving the money, Risinamhodzi was required to send all the cash receipts to HMMAS cash office for recording and other banking purposes. The officers at the cash office would prepare a receipt as acknowledgement for receiving the cash.
The person handing over the cash would be given a copy of the acknowledgement receipt.
It is alleged that during the period, Risinhamodzi collected US$7 000 and converted it to personal use. Pardon Dziva prosecuted for the State.
