Ostallos arrested, accused of violence

Pelandaba legislator and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba has been arrested on charges of inciting public violence at Barbourfields Stadium as well as defacing campaign posters of his rival in the just ended 2023 harmonised election.

According to an exhibit filed at CID Law and Order Bulawayo, Siziba is alleged to have defaced Soneni Moyo campaign posters on August 16 in contravention of section 153 (1) of the Electoral Act Chapter 2:13.

Siziba will appear on Friday at the Western Commonage court.

The opposition CCC has since condemned the arrest of its members which they feel is politically motivated.

Posting on X formerly Twitter, CCC said, "Hon Siziba, Deputy Mayor Kudzai Kadzombe, the #Chirumanzu5, #Seke3, and numerous other members of our party are innocent individuals who are being unjustly persecuted by the Harare regime solely because of their affiliation with CCC."

Earlier this week, another CCC MP Maureen Kademaunga of Sunningdale constituency was arrested and charged with attempted murder, only to be set free after the State dropped the charges.

CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi told NewsDay that the ruling Zanu PF party is clandestinely working to ensure it attains a two-third majority in Parliament by instigating the arrest of opposition legislators to force by-elections.
