The Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRCS) has been for the past five days keeping an eye on minors at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show under the humanitarian organisation’s Restoring Family Links (RFL) component.
Over the years, there have been reports of children missing at the Harare Agricultural Show, which prompted ZRCS to chip in and collaborate with the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show Society (ZAS).
Running under the theme, Sustained Growth: Adaptation. Productivity, Linkages, the show allows companies and organisations to showcase their innovations, products and services.
ZRCS initiated a solution-driven approach of tagging all minors attending the show taking into cognisance the diverse crowd that attend the week-long business symposium.
Understanding the challenges of reuniting lost children with their families, ZRCS deployed volunteers at gates and at its own stand.
These volunteers tag minors with contact details, facilitating swift reunions in case of separation.
ZRCS spokesperson Elias Hwenga said the selfless acts by Red Cross volunteers made it possible for his organisation to reach out to many communities in need.
“As a humanitarian voluntary organisation, the services that we proffer at community level are driven by the volunteers and we do not take for granted their dedication and effort in providing timely, appropriate and sustainable humanitarian service to all communities,” he said.

Apart from the RFL component, ZRCS in partnership with the ZAS has been offering first aid services and free vital medical services through its clinic.
The services at the clinic include Non-communicable diseases screening and general practitioner consultations.
Patients and general visitors have been getting a glimpse of how the Red Cross clinic, a low-cost primary healthcare facility, operates and the services that are offered on a daily basis.
Another major highlight at the ZRCS was at the training department which is showcasing its various courses which include nurse aid and first aid training.
These and other health and care courses are evidence-based and tailored to suit individuals, groups, and corporates across all sections in Zimbabwe through our countrywide training centres.
ZRCS is a humanitarian organisation dedicated to serving vulnerable communities across the country.
