Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest in a statement.

POLICE in Harare arrested 19 students from Corridors of Hope College in Dzivarasekwa Extension (Nehanda area) yesterday, where they were having a vuzu party.

They were arrested alongside Pride Nyamugafata (20), the caretaker of house 153 Nehanda in Dzivarasekwa Extension, where they were holding the party located near the college.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest in a statement.

“Police confirm that a raid has been conducted at a sex party. Nineteen students and the caretaker of the house Pride Nyamugafata (20) have been arrested. Several bottles of alcohol, wines, some condoms, shisha and its flavour have been confiscated,” Nyathi said.

The students were taken to Dzivarasekwa Police Station.

One of the students who were rounded up allegedly jumped out of a hired police kombi and fled.

Vuzu parties are wild parties which are attended by mostly teenagers, where they indulge in alcohol, drug and substance abuse and sex with various partners.

Police have in the past rounded up youths attending such parties and confiscated alcohol and sex-enhancing pills.

Last November, Bulawayo police arrested 39 students from various schools in the city at a vuzu party.

In May last year, nine juveniles were part of 131 youths arrested in Bulawayo while going to a vuzu party.
