Iranian President Raeisi jets in

IRANIAN President Ebrahim Raeisi arrived in Harare yesterday and was welcomed by his Zimbabwean counterpart Emmerson Mnangagwa at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

Raeisi is on a three-leg tour of Africa, where he will also visit Kenya and Uganda.

Zanu PF supporters and the Islamic community were at the airport to welcome the Iranian leader.

Mnangagwa was being accompanied by his deputy Constantino Chiwenga and Zanu PF national chairperson Oppah Muchinguri, among other senior government officials.

The Iranian President, who was set to go to the State House to sign bilateral agreements with Mnangagwa, inspected the guard of honour.

Addressing Zanu PF supporters and the Islamic community at the airport, Mnangagwa said: “When you see him (Raeisi), you see me, when you see me, you have seen him. Our friendship started long back during the liberation struggle with our former late President Robert Mugabe.

“We are happy with this solidarity, we wanted him to stay for five days, but he said he is busy.”
