A 37-YEAR-OLD man allegedly drugged a 15-year old girl and raped her at a memorial service.

The suspect (name withheld) of Mbeko Village, under Chief Mukota in Mudzi district reportedly threatened to kill the girl after the rape.

Mashonaland East police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the incident and urged rape victims to report such incidents immediately.

"I confirm the arrest of a man in Mudzi in connection with a rape case involving a juvenile. We urge the public to quickly report rape cases so that victims get medical assistance in time as well as apprehending the suspects," he said.

It is alleged that on April 11, at around 10pm, the suspect was at the girl's homestead where a memorial service was being held.

It is reported that the suspect then started giving the girl some beer until she became intoxicated.

The suspect allegedly asked the girl to accompany him at a nearby tuckshop and she complied.

It is reported that while on the way, the suspect then dragged the girl into the bush and raped her once and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone.

The girl then told one of her relatives who accompanied her to Kotwa Police Station where she filed a report.

She was then taken to hospital where a medical affidavit revealed that she had been sexually abused.
