Cottco hunts for new MD

COTTCO Holdings (Cottco) is hunting for a new managing director to replace Pious Manamike, who resigned last month together with the company’s marketing and business development manager Maxmore Njanji after they were accused of corruption.

This comes amid on-going court proceedings where the duo faces abuse of office charges and accusations of siphoning millions of United States dollars from the firm.

Allegations are that they used their own trucks to distribute inputs from the company’s depots dotted around the country without their employer’s knowledge. Insiders say Njanji’s post could be abolished.

The duo is also accused of conniving with Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena (Zanu PF) in defrauding Cottco of US$5,8 million.

Wadyajena is being charged together with his company, Mayor Logistics, Manamike, Njanji, Fortunate Molai and Chiedza Danha, director of Pierpont Moncroix Mauritius, which was reportedly used as a conduit in the alleged money-laundering scam.

Local recruitment consultancy firm, The Valcol Group, recently was on the market looking for suitable candidates for the post of Cottco managing director. Cottco head of operations Munyaradzi Chikasha has been the acting managing director since July.

The consultancy firm said the closing date for applications is November 30.

The development comes as government is in the process of increasing its stake in Cottco.
