Pangolin skin lands man in jail

BY NKOSENTSHA KHUMALO A MAN from Inyathi’s D38 Queens Compound, Matabeleland North, has been jailed nine years for illegal possession of a pangolin skin.

Amen Ndebele (39), who was being represented by Tinashe Runganga of Tanaka Law Chambers, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga.

Naison Chivayo told the court that on June 28, this year Criminal Investigations Department officers under the Minerals, Flora and Fauna section in Bulawayo received an anonymous tipoff that a man was in possession of a pangolin skin along Bulawayo’s 3rd Avenue.

They acted on the tipoff, leading to his arrest. During police investigations, Ndebele said the skin belonged to his colleague Penias.
