BY JAIROS SAUNYAMA THE Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church (MAFC) has taken the lead in encouraging its members countrywide to take measles vaccination seriously to avoid loss of lives.
Speaking at the church’s annual 10-day gathering in Dorowa, Murambinda yesterday, MAFC spokesperson Mike Mukarati said sect members were allowed to have their children vaccinated.
“We urge the apostolic sect to accept the measles vaccination programme. We are in support of the government programme to vaccinate children against measles. We value our health, hence we need to make sure that we get the necessary medication and treatment,” Mukarati said.
Measles has claimed hundreds of lives, with Manicaland province topping the list.
According to government, those affected are mainly from the apostolic sects whose church doctrine prohibits them from accessing modern medical services.
Buhera is also one of the districts in Manicaland that has recorded the highest number of measles casualties.
MAFC spoke to young women on how to avoid child marriages.
“This gathering is meant for youths and we are here to empower them with life skills. We are saying no to child marriages and this platform is meant to discourage them from rushing into marriages,” Mukarakati added.

The event was attended by Buhera North legislator William Mutomba, Chief Chitsunge and several Zanu PF politicians from the district.
Mutomba hailed the church for leading in advocating for the fight against measles, among other killer diseases.
