BRITISH ambassador to Zimbabwe Catriona Laing on Wednesday night said she was keen to work with directors in the fledgling local film industry and connect them to established film makers in her country.

Speaking at the pre-screening of the latest James Bond movie, Spectre, organised by the British Embassy and Premier Auto Services, she noted that the country’s film industry had fallen on hard times.

“My plan, after this, is to talk to local Zimbabwe film producers through the Zimbabwe Film School that is very ambitious and keen and has big ideas, but is struggling a little bit with study and resources. So I am going to be going around talking to directors, film producers and actors to see what we can do to link them up with the best expertise in Britain,” she said.

The film opened with a small montage of Laing seemingly talking to Bond, whose image was emblazoned on a poster advertising the film, before she jokingly instructed him to take over and the screen came alive, as she took her seat.

In the latest instalment, super spy James Bond finds himself up against a secret organisation with agents across the globe that he must infiltrate.

According to the website Boxofficemojo.com, the film broke records when it recorded $80 million in is first week, the highest of any film released in Britain.

Premier Auto Services Zimbabwe general manager, Manfred Chaniwa said the company decided to partner with the embassy because three Jaguar/Land Rover vehicles were used in the film.

“We have three of our cars in the movie, the Ranger Rover Sport, Land Rover Defender, and in the movie we have the Jaguar CX75, which is basically a concept car, which we will be launching in the very near future as part of the brand. So the brand is very much alive in the movie,” he said.

The movie was an all-out British event from the songs to cars to the icon, James Bond himself. The movie had fans guessing from start to finish, with high thrills, death-defying stunts (the majority performed by Hollywood actor Daniel Craig himself) and had a dramatic element to it.
