THE second season of the Pan-African reality singing competition, Old Mutual Amazing Voices is back with online auditions currently underway due to COVID-19 global pandemic.
Auditions of the reality television series sponsored by Old Mutual roared to life on 28 October and will run until November 26, with the competition’s ultimate winners set to pocket a grand prize of US$100 000.
The competition will feature talented and unsigned groups from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa of no less than four members who specialise in the pop, gospel and RnB genres.
Old Mutual head of group marketing and innovation Lillian Mbayiwa in a statement said interested groups which wanted to audition for the competition should submit a two-minute video on http://www.oldmutual.co.za/amazing-voices before November 26.
“This sponsorship discovers and develops young people with great talent. Old Mutual has been championing mutually positive futures for 175 years. We are grateful that we can enable them to achieve and share their exceptional best. It’s a great privilege, there is no greater time than now to focus on what really matters, your passion,” she said.
Mbayiwa said entrants would have their video submissions reviewed by a team of experienced and in-country talent selectors.
“The groups selected to go to the next round in the competition will be invited to attend closed auditions in the capital cities of the participating countries during November and December,” she said. “Two groups from each country will then be given the opportunity to represent their nation at the elimination phase to be held in South Africa. Leading to the exciting finale, the elimination process will result in just three groups fighting it out in the ultimate ‘sing off’.”

Mbayiwa said the public was encouraged to participate in the voting phase of the competition.
“When the final three groups are selected, the public will be invited to vote for their favourite group. These votes will be tallied and form the basis of the final decision when the ultimate winner is announced,” she said.
DStv Zimbabwe general manager Norman Raisbeck said the competition enabled musical groups to showcase their skills to a wide audience and receive mentorship from some of the best artistes. “After the successful first season of Old Mutual Amazing Voices on Zambezi Magic here in Zimbabwe, we are delighted to bring to our viewers another relevant, aspirational and entertaining season of the show,” he said.
“This exciting Pan-African singing competition not only builds ties but also gives talented groups an opportunity to showcase their skills to a wide audience.”
