Never cared about famous
Only care about growth
Only cared what I wrote
in the music I’m making
But my moves have been major
Never needed a crowd
But they know my name now
Through the music I’m making

handione panemhaka mhaka,” goes part of the lyrics to Zimbabwean singer, songwriter and musician Gemma Griffiths' brand new single Mhaka set to be dropped today.
A statement released by her management on Wednesday describes the song as “an emotionally charged and sonically rich masterpiece”.
Griffiths' latest single paves the way for her eagerly anticipated, self-titled debut album, offering fans a tantalising glimpse into the 16-track project set to be dropped on May 23.
“I think after being in the industry for a decent amount of time, I really have taken my time and care in putting together my debut album. This body of work is unapologetically an acknowledgement of the journey so far, the hustle of being a creative in Harare,” she told NewsDay Life & Style.
“It is a love song and a love project to my home city and I hope with this music the visuals and everything that is the Gemma album my fans and new fans will get to see a different side of this girl from Harare.”
The statement added: “Mhaka is an unapologetic anthem of resilience, success and transformation. It was produced by Oskid, including Killer T, Winky D and ExQ. Themes of growth and empowerment resonate on this song.
“I wrote this song for my album. After being in the industry for quite some time, I needed to put out a body of work that was unapologetically me and Mhaka was my first inspiration.
“I know where my dreams are — and they are so big. This song is my journey, confronting the things that shaped me and celebrating the strength I am mustering to move forward.”
The Ndichatarisa hitmaker promised collaborations with both local and international stars.
She is set to introduce an emerging voice to the landscape — showcasing her commitment to championing talent from her homeland and beyond.
The accompanying video for the track was directed by Emil Zendera and was shot on locations in Harare, offering scenes from well-known spots such as Greenwood Park and Donnybrook Racecourse.
