ADELAIDE Ganyani is confident that her obsession for poetry, film and marketing will be buttressed as she seeks to lay a strong foundation for her multifaceted creative career.
Last year, Ganyani was part of the International Images Film Festival where she learnt a lot and intends to put that into practice through a film.
Subsequent to that, the artist negotiated a partnership with the Simba Arts Trust, where she conceived her first film project, Beneath the Calvary, which is currently work in progress.
Collaborating with Icapa Trust, which empowers female filmmakers, was her other significant milestone.
Ganyani told NewsDay Life & Style that several of her fellow youth and school-going children have fallen victim to drug and substance abuse.
Beneath the Calvary project is a crime thriller exploring the dark world of drug trafficking and its impact on a small town.
The story follows a special taskforce investigating a deadly drug cartel in Hatcliffe, uncovering a shocking connection to the Calvary Church.
The film reveals that drug and substance abuse is not confined to the boy child, it extends to girls, women and men.

The International Images Film Festival provided an opportunity to engage with renowned filmmakers like Donut Kush, Gabriela Sindler and Carla Sospedro.
These interactions inspired me to push beyond my limits. In 2024, I also participated in writing competitions, winning recognition from the Women Writers Network and She Developers.
Additionally, I represented my country at the Impact Conference in Nigeria, discussing sustainability and women's empowerment.
I was part of Film Africa, facilitated by the Royal Africa Society in London, gaining valuable insights from industry experts and drawing inspiration from Ian Gabriel's work.

Future plans and aspirations
As I look to 2025, I am optimistic about establishing Segan Cinema Studio, a platform to support aspiring filmmakers and produce globally acclaimed films.
I aim to collaborate with industry experts, revolutionise the film industry in Zimbabwe and provide resources for emerging artists. I am excited to travel, engaging with global organisations like National Geographic, Netflix and SpaceX. I am eager to collaborate with talented filmmakers like Ian Gabriel and Shonda Rhimes, promoting Zimbabwe through powerful films.
