INTERNATIONAL singing sensation Tyla is leading the pack at the upcoming South African Music Awards (Samas) with five nominations.
The South African singer’s self-titled album stole the show during the Sama30 nominees announcement breakfast at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, South Africa, recently.
A Press release by the Samas confirmed that Tyla has the most nominations.
“She was nominated in SAMPRA Album of the Year Artiste, Newcomer of the Year, Best Pop Album as well as the Best Collaboration categories (for Water with Travis Scott),” the Press release read.
The nominees announcement set the tone for a milestone 30th celebration of the most prestigious and coveted music awards in South Africa, with the main Samas event set to take place at the Gallagher Convention Centre on November 2.
“With the theme: Less noise and more music, Sama30 emphasises a renewed focus on artistry and creativity,” the statement read.
“The nominations berths are testament to the competitiveness and outstanding craftsmanship of the industry.”
Hard on the heels of Tyla’s nominations are Kabza De Small, Mthunzi and Mbuso Khoza (Shaka Ilembe Soundtrack Album Volume 2 Original Music from Shaka Ilembe TV series) with three nods. “Kabza, the diminutive amapiano maestro, is in the running for Album of the Year and Motsweding FM Best Amapiano Album for Isimo and Radio 2000 Duo/Group of the year with Mthunzi for Isimo,” the statement further read.

It’s a clash of the titans in the Lesedi FM Male Artiste of the Year category, amapiano headliners Kelvin Momi for Kurhula, Daliwonga for Dali Dali and De Mthuda for Baba.
