Top actor Rasedile lands a lead role on new legal drama series

Life & Style
Created by executive producer Thandi Ramathesele (a longtime producer on 7de Laan), the drama series is produced by Izwi Multimedia and directed by Nthabiseng Tau (Youngins, Outlaws) and South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) winners Nthabiseng Mokoena and Christo Davids.

A 13-EPISODE legal drama series, Law, Love & Betrayal, is set to premiere on September 5, with new episodes airing every Thursday until November 28 on Showmax Original.

Moving between Tembisa and Sandton, the drama series follows a tough township lawyer who forces her way into a slick, family-owned firm in Sandton, where she finds that everyone has secrets, just like her.

Having paid her dues on shows like The Estate, Scandal, MTV Shuga and Justice Served, Dineo Rasedile steps into her first lead role as Gugu Mabaso with television presenter and actor Nimrod Nkosi as well as Pearl Modiadie.

“Each episode’s cases are fascinating. While obviously fictionalised, this show is not make-believe, we are quoting real acts and cases,” Rasedile reckons.

“I learned so much while filming the show, it was eye-opening to realise how little we know about the law.”

Famed for productions such as Utatakho, Isibaya and The Queen, on the series, Nkosi plays character Gatsha Gumede, the founder of Gumede & Associates, where a succession battle is brewing.

“Showmax has raised the bar in terms of production quality and the story is enticing,” Nkosi said, adding that the drama series was a unique show set in the glitz and glamour world of law, generational wealth and scheming.

SAFTA-winning presenter and actress Modiadie, who has featured on Rhythm City, Generations, Scandal and Black Tax, plays the character Ayanda Gumede-Williams, Gatsha’s ambitious, cutthroat daughter, one of the most brilliant lawyers at the firm.

“The drama series has a mix of everything, law, love and a lot of betrayal. It will captivate those passionate about law and breathtaking cinematography as well as those drawn to complex love stories and strong ambitious women in the corporate world,” she noted.

“We have great fashionable moments as well. The series features strong characters who each stand out in their own unique way and the storyline is rich and layered. I am confident it’s going to leave a huge impact.”
