Makumbe drops new single

Life & Style
The Afrobeats-laced track features renowned multi-genre artiste Nyasha David and was produced by Rodney Beatz, who experimented with a dancehall fusion sound.

"Somebody, somebody

Stuck on you coz you’re my buddy

Loving me right and tell everybody,” goes part of the lyrics from rising star Kim Makumbe’s latest single Drowning, which loosely translates to “kunyura” in Shona.

Released on Wednesday, the Afrobeats-laced track features renowned multi-genre artiste Nyasha David and was produced by Rodney Beatz, who experimented with a dancehall fusion sound.

“Drowning is a song that speaks on matters of the heart. It is about the intense emotions that come with falling in love,” Makumbe said.

“We wanted to capture that feeling in a way that everyone can relate to.

“Working with Nyasha David has been an incredible experience and we are excited for our fans to hear it.”

The fast-rising Harare-based artiste, known for her unique blend of RnB, Afrobeat and contemporary sounds, is blessed with powerful, soulful vocals and lyrical prowess.

She has performed on notable platforms such as Unplugged, the Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival and the Harare chapter of global music network Sofar Sounds, among other shows.

Her song Time made it to the BBC Radio Leicester playlist.

Also, her collaboration with ExQ on the song Mashoko (2023) made waves in the music industry.

According to a statement released by Makumbe’s management earlier this week, the song showcases her dynamic vocal prowess and ability to connect with a wide audience through relatable themes and a unique sound.

“She is committed to delivering high-quality music that resonates with a diverse audience and she is here to stay,” part of the statement read.

Nyasha David, a celebrated name on the Zimbabwean music scene, adds his distinctive touch to the track.

With a career spanning several successful years, he has established himself as a prominent figure in Zimbabwe’s music industry.

The single is now available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and iTunes.

The accompanying video premiered on Makumbe’s official YouTube channel on Wednesday.
