ORGANISERS of the KwaNtuthu Comedy Festival have set October 24 to 26 as the dates for the second edition of the fiesta.

The festival will run under the theme Engage, Educate, Entertain.

The fete will have its activities at the Bulawayo Theatre, which will see the first day set for theatre, day two high school short film screening and the last day as the stand-up comedy night.

In a statement, board secretary Gugulethu Masha confirmed the developments highlighting the comedians this season will have.

“This year, we welcome back Keith Nkosi on the comedy scene after a long hiatus from the art, a currently South Africa-based comedian who is no stranger to the stand-up comedy scene in Bulawayo, having performed at Intwasa Arts Festival, Ibumba Arts Festival and various comedy nights alongside Clive Chigubhu (now late) and Ntando Van Moyo, among others in the past,” Masha said.

“We also have Ntobeko Malaba, a one-liner and observational humour, stand-up comedian from Lupane. His comedy explores the absurdities of modern life, relationships, technology and his comedy is relatable, thought-provoking and unapologetic, with a unique blend of wordplay and commentary.”

It was further revealed that Tanya Alex, the 2023 National Arts Merits Awards nominee for outstanding comedian from Harare will also take her five-year experience of rib cracking to the stage.

Masha said this year’s 13 short films were written, acted, directed and produced by students from various schools, among them Dominican Convent High, St Augustine’s College, Sobukhazi High, St Columba’s High, Girls College, King George VI Memorial School for People with Disabilities, St John’s High and Emerald Hill (Harare).
