ON a serene summer evening in Harare, the majestic sounds of Czech classical music filled the air, uniting music lovers from diverse backgrounds.
The enchanting performance by rising opera star Zdeňka Kotková and pianist Guncha Hojanepesova at St John's College this week was a testament to the power of music to transcend borders and cultures.
“The moment Zdeňka began to sing, I was captivated by her voice. It was like nothing I have ever heard before,” said attendee Sarah Moyo. “The way she conveyed emotion through her music was truly breathtaking.”
The concert, co-organised by the Czech embassy in Lusaka and Ivana Summerfield, Czech Honorary Consul in Harare, showcased a rich tapestry of classical masterpieces, including works by Rossini, Puccini and Dvořák.
“Music is the universal language and tonight we experienced its beauty and unifying power,” said Summerfield. “Zdeňka's performance was a gift to our community and we are grateful for her return to Zimbabwe.”
