NEW kid on the block for pageantry, Miss Teen of The Universe, has kicked off with a bang.

The title pageant was launched at a glamorous cocktail party at De Lux Garden in Killarney, Bulawayo, this past weekend.

Notable entertainment industry personalities from Zambia and South Africa as well as local gurus attended the event, setting the tone for what promises to be a pageant to remember.

Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, award-winning reality television sensation Mutale Mwanza expressed pride and well wishes for the contestants, adding that they should push harder for their dreams.

The pageant’s patron Aphia Nyasha Musavengana said it was all about empowering.

“This is a momentous occasion for Zimbabwe.We want to empower the girl child, so everyone who competes will walk away empowered. The girl crowned queen will receive her school fees until she completes university. Education is a must”.

The finalists will also travel extensively, mingling with celebrities for brand building,” Musavengana added.

The pageant chairperson Nokuthaba Manungo said the winner would represent Zimbabwe at the international competition in India.

The launch is themed Empowering the Girl Child Through Promoting  Culture and Heritage Towards Vision 2030.

The well-organised event which kicked off in time, had an aura of excitement and it reached fever pitch when Tariro Gezi took over from TV presenter Nyasha Mutamangira who also delivered as host of the night. Gezi hyped up the audience as she led in rumba and amapiano dance moves.

The main event will take place  on August 3 at the ZITF in Bulawayo. The finalists were sashed on the launch night.
