DELTA Corporation general manager corporate affairs Patricia Kudzai Murambinda says the company is committed to continuing its collaboration with the music industry as it recognises the role music plays in the growth of the economy, cultural expression and social cohesion.

Murambinda made the remarks as the guest of honour at the Zimbabwe College of Music 14th graduation ceremony in Harare last week.

“Music has since evolved from being a mere hobby, a preoccupation of lumpen youths or a career for the social outcast to become a value chain. Music has become a key pillar in national development, peace building, cultural diplomacy and social cohesion. Music is business,” Murambinda said in her speech.

She appealed to other corporates to come on board and support the arts industry instead of dismissing and undervaluing it.

“I want to urge corporates here not to shun the arts, not to shun musicians, not to undervalue them but work to promote them,” the executive  added.

Murambinda said Delta Corporation was committed to continue working with the music industry, not only through educational support and talent development but  also through creating platforms where talent can thrive, adding that the entity would continue to invest in initiatives that promoted the growth of the music industry ensuring that musicians had all the resources and opportunities required to succeed.

She said a multi-sectoral approach would assist in fighting drug and substance abuse in the country.

“I strongly believe a multi-sectoral approach which also includes senior musicians, the corporate world, government, civil society and local leadership can help in fighting the scourge. We have gone past the campaign and awareness stage. We need to put our heads together and save this generation,” Murambinda said.

Delta Corporation has been supporting the arts through initiatives such as the Chibuku Road to Fame and Chibuku Neshamwari traditional dance competitions.
