RENOWNED musician Hosiah Chipanga has revealed that he was excluded from performing at the much-anticipated Uhuru gala set for tomorrow in Murambinda, Manicaland province, for criticising the government.
In a social media post Chipanga wrote: “I am deeply hurt, my family, friends and fans that even though I am a citizen and musician of Zimbabwe I will not be able to perform and celebrate the 44 years of independence in Murambinda, Manicaland which is also my hometown. Organisers from the Information ministry said I criticise the government.”
The Uhuru gala is set for Murambinda B High School as part of the country’s 44th independence celebrations and admission is free. Uhuru is a Swahili word for freedom or independence.
Artistes to perform at the musical gala include Sulumani Chimbetu, the Senior Lecturer Madzibaba Nicholas Zacharia, Sandra Ndebele, Diana Samkange, Mark Ngwazi, Simon Mutambi, kanindo songstress Shantel Sithole, Chillspot Family, Jah Master, among others.
Zimbabwe attained independence on April 18, 1980 and this year marks 44 years of celebrating the country’s freedom. This year’s independence celebrations will be running under the theme Zim@44: Unity, Peace and Development Towards Vision 2030.
