SUNGURA musician Gift Amuli tonight presents his fans an early Christmas present when he launches Stupendous, his seventh album at Club Tanza in Chitungwiza.

The six-track album comes after a six-year hiatus having released the album Masvingo in 2017.

Like many other musicians, Amuli was hit hard by global COVID-19-induced hardships which led him to lose grip on his band members.

Amid the pandemic he, however, kept compiling songs until recently when he recorded the album Stupendous.

In an interview with NewsDay Life & Style, the Wamatuka hitmaker said the album carried a transformative message on social correction.

Songs on the album are Manyepo Ayo, Saru, Bulldog featuring Hwindi, Ndiyeyu, Homwe and Madiro.

“The song Manyepo Ayo talks about how people tend to be trustworthy during the early days and later become undependable. The song is encouraging people to be watchful of hypocrites.

“The track Saru presents a man who is troubled with trust in family relationships after his marriage was haunted by bad spirits as advised by spirit mediums and prophets,” Amuli said.

“On Bulldog, I am forewarning people to hunt for money while their energy and age still permit. Time is of the essence and people must deliver relevant services to get what they want in life.

“The song Ndiyeyu speaks about how close friends can be sources of one’s problems.”

Speaking about the launch venue, Amuli said it was suitable for people from all walks of life as it accommodated a huge audience and had vast parking space.

“Since December 22 is Unity Day holiday, we expect people to come in their numbers to unite in a celebration of music and dance,” he said.

He said the launch would accommodate all ages as he would take them down memory lane with his yesteryear hits such as Wamatuka, Amai Vevana, Daka Renyu, Donhodzo, Gamuchirai and Nhai Baba.

Amuli revealed that his passion for music started in high school when he met Joseph Mutero, who was fronting Zvishavane Sounds. He became part of the band which was contracted as fulltime entertainers by Zvishavane Mine as part of its corporate social responsibility.

He later joined the Zig-Zag Band immediately after completing his Advanced Level studies at Regina Mundi High School.

His discography comprises of Munombozvigona Sei, By Ginya, Machena, Yave Munesu, Masvingo and Wedangwe.
