THE stage is set for high school students across the country to showcase their brilliance tomorrow when they battle for honours at this year’s grand finale of the Old Mutual National High School Quiz set for the Golden Conifer in Harare.

The provincial competitions,  held last month, attracted a record 220 participating schools. This marked a significant increase from last year’s edition.

During the provincial competitions, students captivated audiences with their rapid responses and in-depth knowledge on various issues. The quiz consisted of four heats, covering various subjects including the history and geography of Africa, current affairs, science, architecture and technology.

After intense battles of wits, the 10 schools that emerged as the provincial finalists will tomorrow lock horns in the national competition. The teams displayed not only their ability to recall facts, but also their critical thinking skills and teamwork.

Old Mutual’s executive head of group marketing, public affairs and sustainability Lillian Mbayiwa said the increased number of participants at the provincial level demonstrated the growing popularity and importance of the quiz competition in fostering intellectual growth and knowledge sharing among the youth.

“The stage is set for an exhilarating clash of minds as 10 brilliant schools vie for the ultimate prize. This quiz competition is not just about answering questions, it is about nurturing critical thinking, teamwork, and a thirst for knowledge,” Mbayiwa said.

“We are proud to be part of this journey and witness the brilliant minds that emerge from this experience. The Old Mutual High School Quiz provides a platform for young minds to showcase their talents and expand their horizons.”

She said the financial services group was committed to empowering the youth and supporting their intellectual growth.

“It is incredible to witness the impact this competition has on shaping the future leaders of our society,” Mbayiwa said, adding that the Old Mutual High School Quiz stands as a testament to the power of education, collaboration and the untapped potential of local youths.

“As we eagerly await the national finals, it is important for the nation to rally behind these extraordinary young minds and support their journey. Let us celebrate their achievements, cheer them on, and be inspired by their brilliance.

“It is a reminder that by investing in their intellectual growth, we are investing in a brighter and more prosperous future. So, let us rally behind these brilliant minds, support their journey, and celebrate their achievements.
