SOUTH AFRICA-BASED disc jockey Zandile Mazithulela, popularly known as DJ Zandi Maz, has challenged fellow women to desist from engaging in meaningless gossip about each other.
In her effort to preach unity peace among women, DJ Zandi Maz has penned and recorded a track titled Simunye, which translates to “we are one”.
The wheel spinner told NewsDay Life & Style that the inspiration behind the song did not come from her experiences in the industry only as widely speculated, but from also life experiences.
“It is not just within the entertainment world. Even in life and other industries I have realised how cruel we (women) are to each other. It’s so weird, for example, if a man and a woman approach a service provider at the same time, if it’s a female attendant then they are likely to be kinder to the male client. I have seen this happen a lot,” she said.
“These are daily unfoldings, in life women have fewer lasting relationships. However, moving back to the industry, I have had a few collaborations with women who were very nice to me, but mostly they just snub me through endless excuses.”
DJ Zandi Maz said women needed to wake up and realise that they have to stand for each other.
“You see girls being great friends and then at the same time they gossip about one another. I am barely around women because of such behaviour of gossip and jealousy. I wish we could see groups of women performers and collaborators,” she said.
DJ Zandi Maz, who has collaborated with Kalawa Records star Nokwazi for the hit track Emathandweni, has teased her fans to watch out for the Simunye video.
