MR National University of Science and Technology (Nust), Musawenkosi Fortune Ndlovu has launched cardio classes for the elderly in Bulawayo.

Ndlovu, who is also a fitness bunny, told NewsDay Life & Style that the initiative is one of his ways of giving back to the community.

“I was raised by the community around me without them I would not be the person I am. I am aware of my surrounding area all the time and I am targeting the elderly people,” he said.

“The elderly frequently complain about joint pains and backaches which can be a result of lack of exercise. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind and reduces chances of stroke. The initiative will also help to keep their sugar levels and body fat balanced.”

The Nust property development and estate management student said the cardio class has 10 people.

“I have about 10 people at the moment. We work out at my place of residence, so space is a bit of an issue for us now.

“We are making arrangements with the ward councillor in Pelandaba to avail the youth centre to us so that we will be able to take on more people and explore different things,” he added.
