Internationally acclaimed mbira queen Mbuya Stella Chiweshe
VETERAN mbira musician Mbuya Stella Chiweshe has died.
She was 77.
A top arts promoter who confirmed the death to NewsDay Life & Style said the singer has not been feeling well for some time.
“It is so sad we have lost our veteran mbira musician. Mbuya Stella Chiweshe is no more. May her soul rest in peace,” said the promoter who requested anonymity.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe executive director Nicholas Moyo said: “It is sad we are releasing the statement now. January is such a bad month for us.”
Reports have it that Chiweshe died this morning at her Kuwadzana home in Harare.
