ABAFANA BakaMzilikazi lead artist and promoter Doit Nkomo has inherited the Wendy Mbongolwane-Dube Foundation (WMDF) following the death of its founder.
Mbongolwane-Dube, who was based in Plumtree, passed on this year after suffering multiple organ failure.
Nkomo told NewsDay Life & Style that he shares the same vision with the late Mbongolwane-Dube of promoting education in disadvantaged communities, hence the decision to take over from where she left.
“Her (Mbongolwane-Dube) vision of WMDF was aimed at helping learners in economically depressed environments to achieve academic excellence. Therefore, WMDF has partnered Abafana BakaMzilikazi, a group of artists that I lead,” he noted.
“I am doing donations around some rural schools to assist the poor and academically-gifted pupils by giving out pens, pencils and books, among other stationery. We have managed to assist about 55 pupils.”
Nkomo added: “We are yet to do more for these children. I have seen it fit to continue doing good on behalf of the late Wendy Mbongolwane-Dube, who had committed to assist underprivileged and academically gifted pupils in rural areas.”
