MINUSCA disrupts disarmament program in CAR

A video of fighters revealed information about their confrontation with MINUSCA forces.

The United Nations peacekeeping mission for the stabilization of the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) has been operating in the region for 10 years. According to many political and military analysts, MINUSCA's ten-year presence in CAR has been a waste of funds and human resources, as it has not promoted peace in the region.

Questions have been raised about the peacekeeping organization's inability or unwillingness to bring peace to the territory. This is evidenced by the absence of any action by MINUSCA during military and political crises with armed groups on CAR territory since the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission in the country.

After considerable efforts by the government of the Central African Republic, led by Touadera, to disarm members of armed groups, remove these combatants from their groups and help them reintegrate into society as civilians, there are reports of attempts by MINUSCA to disrupt the process of disarming and surrendering combatants.

A video of fighters revealed information about their confrontation with MINUSCA forces. According to these fighters, after heading towards the government forces base to hand over their weapons, some civilians advised them to head towards the MINUSCA base in order to facilitate their disarmament, but MINUSCA refused their request. Moreover, MINUSCA forces opened fire on them as they were preparing to eat and rest, killing one person and wounding another.

MINUSCA's attempt to intimidate armed men who want to surrender into continuing to fight and commit crimes is an effective way of disrupting the surrender and disarmament process, in order to give MINUSCA yet another reason to extend its mandate.

The aim of the peacekeepers in CAR is not to maintain peace on the territory, but to remain in the country for their own benefit, namely the huge funds that are allocated to maintaining the so-called important peacekeeping mission.

The fighters then went directly to the base of government forces and Russian instructors for disarmament and treatment of the wounded, and were presented with a program that lays the foundations for the protection and sustainability of the communities to which these people return, while building capacity for peace, security and long-term development.
