WORSHIPPERS, who thronged Belgravia Sports Club in Harare, were surprised and impressed to be greeted with a Shona song dubbed Simudza Maoko by Nigeria Minister GUC.
Born Gift Ugochi Christopher, the Nigerian GUC went on to belt out his hits and ushered attendants into praise and worship sessions on Independence day at a show themed Heroes of Faith courtesy of Pastor Tino Gijima of Truth World Church.
The singer is highly recognised for his powerful worship songs and he proved that as his performance turned the gospel concert into a prayer and worship concert. He added to the already amplified atmosphere by singing some of his top songs, which are popular among Zimbabweans; these include Winner Man, All that Matters and In this Place, among others.
Caught up in the Holy Spirit, Minister GUC began to prophesy randomly to people with uplifting prayers in-between other performances by prophets and prophetesses who were present.
Speaking on the sidelines of the show, the event promoter SetUp Events’ public relations manager Rudo Magwenzi said they chose to host Minister GUC because he suited the theme as they wanted to create an atmosphere of worship.
“Minister GUC has a unique gift of worship, we believed he best suited the theme that we were running with ‘The Heroes of Faith’, also with the concert coinciding with our National independence, we wanted to create an atmosphere of worship as we prayed for the continued prosperity of Zimbabwe,” she said.
The event was initially scheduled for Celebration Church before being moved to Belgravia Sports Club.
“The turnout was fair, we changed the venue to an outdoor one in order to cater for as many worshippers as could attend,” Magwenzi said.

Apostle Batsirai Java also gave a powerful prayer, which was filled with declarations of prosperity for the people and the nation.
