WARRIORS winger Tawanda Maswanhise’s stock continues to rise in the Scottish topflight league after he was named Motherwell December Player of the Month, an award he also picked in November.

The Warriors forward is in red-hot form for his club, scoring important goals, including an exquisite finish to open the scoring for his team in the 2-0 league victory over Aberdeen at the weekend.

His latest goal means he has found the back of the net five times in the last three months, a run of form which saw him also voted November Player of the Month.

The monthly awards are voted for by the club’s fans.

The 22-year-old, who joined Motherwell from Leicester City in England, says he is enjoying his time in Scotland.

“My confidence is at an all-time high, which I think has given me an extra edge on the pitch,” Maswanhise said.

“We have navigated a testing time well as a team and I’m glad I can contribute.

“My thanks go to all the fans for their support.”

Maswanhise joined Motherwell in August after signing a short deal, which was supposed to end at the end of this month.

But his impressive form has earned him a contract extension with the club until the summer of 2026, with the option of an additional year.

Meanwhile, former Dynamos star Bill Antonio made his long-awaited return from injury at the weekend when featuring for his Belgium Pro-league side KV Mechelen for the first time in 10 months.

The winger ruptured his ACL in a league game in early March last year and had not featured for his club ever since.

On Sunday, the 22-year-old returned to action in a friendly match against Beveren.

He played just half an hour in a 4-0 win in the practice game as the teams gear for the resumption of league matches following the festive break.

While only being a friendly, it will certainly be a boost for Mechelen, knowing that the winger may be able to contribute before the season is out.

Mechelen, currently on eighth position in the 16-team league, will resume their campaign on Sunday with an away trip to Cercle Brugge.

Last year, Antonio scored three goals in 12 games and Mechelen will be hoping his return could help them push for their target of reaching the top six and qualify for the championship round.

His return, coupled by Maswanhise’s form, could be exciting news for Warriors coach Michael Nees as he prepares for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March.

The two wingers are huge prospects for the Warriors.

Maswanhise has already shown what he can do for the Warriors after he scored the goal that secured Zimbabwe’s place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Needing just a draw against Kenya in Polokwane last November, the Warriors did just that, with Maswanhise scoring for Zimbabwe with a sublime effort in a 1-1 draw to take the team to the Promised Land.

Zimbabwe resume their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with two matches in March, at home to Benin before travelling to Nigeria.

The Warriors currently anchor the six-team Group C with two points, five behind joint leaders Rwanda and South Africa after four rounds of matches.
