Masomere outlines PSL vision

Masomere guided Triangle United back into the Premier Soccer League, after winning the Eastern Region title and had a chance of making it a double had they won the inaugural cup championship.

Although he missed an opportunity of putting the icing on the cake by winning the inaugural Champions of Champions Cup in the final, veteran coach Luke Masomere says he used the two-day tournament to fine-tune his squad ahead of the 2025 PSL season.

Masomere guided Triangle United back into the Premier Soccer League, after winning the Eastern Region title and had a chance of making it a double had they won the inaugural cup championship.

The Champions of Champions Cup featured the four teams that were promoted into the premier league from central, eastern, northern and southern regions respectively.

Kwekwe United (Central Region), Triangle United (Eastern Region), Scottland FC (Northern Region) and ZPC Hwange (Southern Region) squared off at the Bata stadium.

And it was Triangle FC and ZPC Hwange that reached the final after dispatching Kwekwe United and Scottland FC in the semi-finals respectively.

All teams wanted to put the icing on the cake by winning the inaugural Champions of Champions Cup.

ZPC Hwange won 2-1 in the final.

Masomera says his focus is now on making his presence felt again having been absent from the PSL in the last two seasons. He last coached Manica Diamonds in 2019.

Under Masomere's mentorship, Triangle FC turned the tables to execute a smash-and-grab of the PSL promotion ticket.

"This was a good assessment for me to see who to continue with ahead of the PSL season. I am happy that despite losing, I managed to identify the players who can be good enough for the upcoming task," Masomere said.

"It's the beginning of something new for us. We need to start assembling the team that will give us a good representation as we go forward.

"Of course winning the inaugural Champions of Champions Cup would have been good for us, but we make good use of it as we are the runners up.”

Northern Region winners Scottland FC had an unpleasant outing, losing 4-3 on penalties at the hands of Southern Region champions ZPC Hwange on Saturday.

They suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat at the hands of Central Region Soccer League winners, Kwekwe United in the third place play-off.
