Simba continue push for double

Sport
Simba were also booted out in the first first round in last year's edition of the Chibuku Super Cup.

Simba Bhora's quest for the league and Cup double will continue this weekend as they take on Highlanders in the Chibuku Super Cup quarterfinal match at their Wadzanai Stadium Sunday.

The Tonderai Ndiraya coached side have one hand on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after they opened a seven point lead at the top of the log following their 2-1 away win over TelOne on Sunday.

They take on a Highlanders side low on confidence after they gave away a two goal lead to lose 3-2 against Caps United in a league match at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

Winning either of the titles will be a huge achievement for the Shamva based side who were only promoted into the league last season and went on to spend the campaign fighting relegation.

Simba were also booted out in the first first round in last year's edition of the Chibuku Super Cup.

This year, they managed to progress past the initial stage of the competition after beating bogey side Herentals, in a match that went all the way to penalties.

They will go into the match as heavy favourites for so many reasons.

The high flyers are unbeaten in their last 11 matches in all competitions, winning eight including a come from behind 2-1 win over Highlanders a few weeks ago.

Bosso are also struggling for form at the moment.

Their weekend defeat means they are winless in their last four matches.

The former champions have won just once in their last seven league matches.

Simba Bhora are also yet to lose a match at their Wadzanai Stadium this term.

The clash is one of three tantalising quarterfinal matches lined up for the weekend.

Last year's finalists Ngezi Platinum Stars take on Caps United at Baobab Stadium on Saturday.

The Platinum miners defeated Bulawayo Chiefs to reach this stage while Caps United accounted for Bikita Minerals.

Manica Diamonds will play host to Fc Platinum at Sakubva Stadium in a grudge match.

The diamond miners dented the platinum miners' chances of winning the league following a 1-0 win in a league clash at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.

The victory meant that the Jairosi Tapera coached side, which still harbors ambitions to win the league this season, completed a double over Fc Platinum.

The clash between defending champions Dynamos and Yadah has been postponed this weekend due to the former's participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.
