ZIFA northern region one side, Chinhoyi Stars Football are aiming for the stars in pursuit of the dream to bring premiership football to Chinhoyi.
The ambitious community owned club has set its sights on top tier football in Zimbabwe and is looking to challenge for honours in the second tier competition.
Chinhoyi Stars have had busy pre-season as they prepare for the upcoming season and have played friendly matches with teams like Chapungu FC, Black Rhinos and premier league debutants Chegutu Pirates.
Head coach Clayton Mudekwa is encouraged by the performances in preseason by the team and will be using the invaluable experience of playing against these teams to put together a team that can compete.
"We are aiming to play to compete (for the Northern Region Division One title) and not to add numbers. Although we have quite a huge task, we have picked up one or two things we need to correct after playing with these experienced teams. We are going to implement corrections from what we picked up in preseason," Mudekwa said.
"The Happy people" as they are passionately known by the club's supporters, Chinhoyi Stars was established in 2016 and have seen a gradual incline through the local football pyramid.
With their sights set on top flight football, The Happy People are looking to improve on their mid-table finish from last season.
Chinhoyi Stars acknowledged the work done by the city council to upgrade Chinhoyi Stadium which is their home ground.
However, The Happy People are still calling upon prospective sponsors to engage them with the view of assisting the council in continuing to upgrade their home.
Club chairperson, Tapiwa Chitate stated that despite the efforts by the local authorities assistance from external sponsors was needed to help the club achieve its goals.
"We have a big challenge in terms of sponsorship. We are appealing for sponsors to come onboard and aid in the development of football in Chinhoyi. It seems most of the sponsors are concentrating on top tier football only. But I can assure you that there are untapped potential here in the lower Division," Chitate said
Chitate spoke of the need to complete renovations on their home ground after multiple attempts to improve the conditions have ceased before the job is done due to various reasons.
"You can see the state of our Chinhoyi Stadium, we are grateful to the council that they have plans to continue sprucing up and renovate our stadium. So we are still waiting for the local authority to come in and make sure we have better playing conditions," he said.
