United Kingdom-based Warriors midfielder Marvelous Nakamba has through his foundation introduced a girls’ Under-16 soccer tournament which will be held later this year.
In June this year, The Marvelous Nakamba Foundation successfully staged another tournament for the boys Under-17 tournament at the White City Stadium in Bulawayo.
The event was won by Majesa Academy from Mutare who beat Highlanders 2-1 in the final.
The Marvelous Nakamba Foundation made an announcement of the new development in a statement yesterday.
Part of the statement read: “The Marvelous Nakamba Foundation is delighted to announce the introduction of the girls’ soccer tournament to be held in November 2022.” “The inaugural edition will consist of eight teams drawn from four of Zimbabwe’s women football league. The participating teams have been selected and submitted by The Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League. They will be revealed through the social media platforms of the foundation in due course together with the tournament dates, time and venue.
“The aim of the foundation is to assist in the nurturing of young talented girls who see themselves to be the next football stars in the near future, as well as trying to accelerate the growth of girls’ football.”
The Aston Villa star said he was happy to continue supporting young people through sport and education.
“I am glad that the commitment of supporting young people through sport and education continues. I urge everyone to assist us on the journey of investing in the growth of girls’ football and of supporting the girl child,” he said.
