GOVERNMENT will be sending auditors to Entembeni People’s Home in Bulawayo to build its capacity and strengthen its internal controls, a Cabinet minister has said.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister July Moyo told legislators in Parliament during a question and answer session last week that the government will dispatch auditors to look into the financial management at the home.
Moyo was responding to a question from Luveve-Emakhandeni legislator Descent Bajila, who had asked him to inform Parliament on the operations of Entembeni.
“The ministry will send its auditors to look into the financial management of the institution in order to build its capacity and strengthen its internal control,” he said.
“The government has an obligation to support the institution through payment of per capita and administrative grants. The ministry regularly monitors the activities of these institutions. These institutions also submit reports to the ministry.”
He said government would engage stakeholders to bring normalcy to the institution.
“The ministry will engage stakeholders, including the City of Bulawayo and management of the institution, in trying to bring normalcy to the governance issues raised,” he said.
Reports in June last year indicated that Entembeni had water challenges as its borehole had broken down and was appealing for assistance for its rehabilitation.

In 2021, it was also reported that the institution was struggling to pay its workers because of lack of donors.
Newman Sibanda, who was board chairperson in 2021, told the media that the withdrawal of donors from the institution was a cause of concern for the management.
