KARIBA, Mar.24 (NewsDayLive)- A 54-year-old Kariba woman has been fined US$150 for leaving her firearm unsecured, leading to her domestic being accidentally shot.

Charlene Geddes was convicted on her own plea of guilty to contravening the Firearms Act when she appeared before magistrate Simon Kandiero.

The court heard that on March 17, 2025, Geddes placed her CZ Vzor pistol under her mattress, loaded with five rounds, and retired to bed.

The following morning, her domestic worker, Lilian Zanga accidentally hooked the pistol while spreading the bed sheets, causing it to discharge and hit her left lower calf.

In passing sentence, the court considered that she was a first-time offender and had footed her employee 's medical bills.
