Padenga Agric-Business launches state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant

Local News
According to Padenga Agri-Business chief executive officer Gary Sharp, the US$1.2 million plant launched on Thursday demonstrated the company's commitment to sustainable environmental management.

KARIBA, Mar.20 (NewsDayLive) - Padenga Agric-Business has launched a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant in Kariba, marking a significant milestone in the company's efforts to promote environmental sustainability.

According to Padenga Agri-Business chief executive officer Gary Sharp, the US$1.2 million plant launched on Thursday demonstrated the company's commitment to sustainable environmental management.

"This project demonstrates our commitment to environmental responsibility and our dedication to protecting the natural resources of Zimbabwe," Sharp said.

The treatment plant is equipped with advanced technology that enables it to remove pollutants and contaminants from wastewater, ensuring that the treated water meets local and international standards.

The investment is expected to have a positive impact on the environment as it will prevent the discharge of untreated effluent into the surrounding waterways.

The launch of the treatment plant came at a time when wastewater management has become a growing concern in Zimbabwe's agriculture sector.

Many agricultural businesses in the country continue to struggle with inadequate wastewater treatment infrastructure, leading to pollution of water bodies and the environment in general.

Christopher Mushava, environmental protection director in the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), commended Padenga Agric-Business for its commitment to environmental sustainability.

"We are pleased to see Padenga Agric-Business taking proactive steps to manage their wastewater,” Mushava said.

“This investment demonstrates their dedication to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development.”

He said EMA will continue to work with businesses like Padenga Agric-Business to promote environmental sustainability and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

The treatment plant is expected to serve as a model for other players in the agricultural sector.
