A HARARE-BASED fuel dealer has appeared in court on charges of stealing US$45 000 worth of fuel from a fellow trader.

Michael Dzimiri (36) was on Monday granted US$250 bail by magistrate Rufaro Panavanhu, who ordered him to stay at the given residential address and report to CID Commercial and Crimes Department twice a week until finalisation of the matter.

The complainant is Precious Mahosho (48) from Mount Pleasant, another fuel dealer under Smart Petroleum Private Limited .

Prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi alleged that on  August 31 last year, fuel trader Precious Mahosho (48) engaged  Dzimiri  to store 40 000 litre Mining Solvent Fuel on her behalf after she failed to secure a buyer for the product.

The court heard that both parties agreed on US$0.01 per litre as storage fee. Mahosho allegedly delivered the fuel to Dzimiri and signed the delivery notes.

On  September 17 2024, Mahosho managed to find a potential buyer for the fuel, but later discovered that Dzimiri had sold the fuel without her consent.

According to court documents, Dzimiri became evasive until Mahosho reported him to police on January 14 this year.

Dzimiri was arrested two days later.
