Measles hits Zvimba district

TEN suspected cases of measles have been recorded in Zvimba district in Mashonaland West province.

The first suspected was recorded last year on October 17, 2024, at Plot 8 Maquadzi Farm in Zvimba and the affected community is an ‘Apostolic which accepts health services.’

No death has been recorded so far and all cases have been vaccinated.

 Provincial medical director Celestino Dhege could neither confirm or deny the measles outbreak reports.

“The ministry will issue a statement if there is something like that,” he said.

Last year more than 35 children died from suspected measles and mumps in Hurungwe district. In 2022 over 150 children succumbed to measles following a countrywide outbreak that affected over 2000 children.
