RESIDENTS in Kariba have been warned against flocking bushy areas following recent sightings of lions in the resort town.
The sightings raised concerns, particularly after a resident spotted two lionesses crossing the main road into the bush corridor near Summerset Road.
The lions have been known to frequent the corridor, especially when one of the females has cubs, a development confirmed by Debbie Ottman, the Kariba Animal Welfare Trust Fund spokesperson.
Ottman advised all residents and the public to remain vigilant while walking, especially during the times when lions are most active — from mid-afternoon to early morning.
“It is vital to walk in groups of at least two or more individuals and to stay on the main roads and avoiding using pathways through the bush, particularly at night,” she said.
Kariba is situated within a wildlife area where lions and other predators are frequently spotted, making caution essential for residents and visitors alike.
Ottman also encouraged the public to report any lion sightings to help monitor their movements and ensure the safety of the community.
