Security foils man’s State House invasion bid

Magureyi appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court on Tuesday facing a charge of trespassing after he again forced entry to State House on December 23.

A HARARE man forced entry to State House two days before Christmas demanding to see President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the second time he has done so within a few months.

The suspect Felix Togaraseyi Magureyi (40) was armed with various weapons including a sjambok when he stormed State House in May this year demanding to see Mnangagwa whom he alleged was his father.

Magureyi appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court on Tuesday facing a charge of trespassing after he again forced entry to State House on December 23.

He was remanded in custody to January 7 next year.

Allegations are that on December 23, this year at about 1300 hours, Magureyi went to State House, Harare, driving a Toyota Hilux Raider registration number AFU 0592.

Upon arrival, it is alleged that he parked his vehicle at the visitor's entrance and confronted police officers demanding to see Mnangagwa.

It was not stated why he wanted to see Mnangagwa.

Magureyi allegedly forced entry to the premises after overpowering a police officer leading to his subsequent arrest.

The State said there were witnesses who would testify to the effect that they saw the accused person committing the said offence.

Magureyi was also captured on video and the footage will be produced in court as an exhibit.

On May 7 this year, Magureyi was arrested after trying to force entry at the State House demanding to see the President.

According to the State, Magureyi went to State House in Harare driving the same vehicle.

On arrival, Magureyi allegedly parked his motor vehicle at the visitor's entrance and approached a police officer who was manning the entrance to State House.

Magureyi told the policeman that he wanted to see Mnangagwa, claiming he was his father before forcing his way into the premises.

Police recovered an unknown pistol magazine, four rounds of ammunition, one hand-held Boafeng communication radio, a burnt bulb extract, a bunch of keys, a sjambok and a toy firearm from his vehicle.

In 2021, a Shamva man was nabbed on allegations of trespassing at State House demanding to see the President over a dream.

Magistrate Judith Taruvinga ordered that the suspect be examined by two medical doctors to ascertain his mental state.

Also in the same year, two daring Harare men reportedly tried to sneak into State House in two separate attempts on the same day.

Nigel Rutsito (37) and Dylan Kanyungwe (24), allegedly posed as Central Intelligence Organisation officers in a bid to gain entry to State House.

In 2020, a 44-year-old Harare man dressed like a soldier and went to State House, demanding to have an audience with Mnangagwa.
