A FORMER People's Own Savings Bank (POSB) agent has been taken to court for allegedly misusing over ZWL$50 000 that was erroneously credited into his account due to a technical glitch during the transition to the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) from Real Time Gross Settlement in May.
The complainant is POSB, represented by Morgen Manyuke, an investigations officer.
The accused Gift Damisi (37) appeared before Harare magistrate Letwin Rwodzi on Saturday.
His duties included selling prepaid ZETDC tokens on behalf of POSB.
State prosecutor Lovet Muringwa submitted that on May 1, during the transition from Real Time Gross Settlement to ZiG, POSB experienced a technical glitch in its system that resulted in erroneously crediting ZiG775 644,85 into the Damisi’s POSB account instead of ZiG 405,23, which was his 2,5% commission for April 2024 after he sold ZETDC tokens worth ZiG16 210.
Upon discovering the system error, POSB reportedly advised Damisi not to use the excess funds; however, he ignored this advice and used ZiG50 110,35.
The court heard that, after realising that Damisi was using the money, POSB debited ZiG 716 672,62 from his account.
On November 1, POSB reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of Damisi.
