CHAIRPERSON of a Harare-based youth empowerment co-operative has appeared in court on a US$40 000 fraud charge.

The accused, Lydia Dzvova (37) of Mabvuku high -density suburb, was granted US$100 bail on Monday when she appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

She was being represented by Tinashe Totoro.

The State alleges that sometime in 2022, Dzvova defrauded Kushinga Youth Empowerment of stands worth US$40 000 which had been allocated to the 110-member youth empowerment group by the Harare City Council.

It is alleged that the members of the co-operative invaded an open piece of land which is a remainder of Ward 46, Donnybrook, Mabvuku, but were evicted by the council.

The co-operative was later allocated 15 commercial stands to enable the members to run various self- help projects.

However, Dzvova allegedly sold the stands without the consent of other members.
