Plumtree man assaulted over beer sips

Upon his return, he found that his beer had been consumed by Sibanda.

A 20-YEAR-OLD man from Mhlotshana Village in Mangwe district, Matabeleland South province, has been remanded in custody for assaulting his drinking mate over beer.

Khulumani Ndlovu appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware this week facing a charge of assault.

He was remanded in custody to September 25 for trial.

Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa told the court on the night of last Saturday, Ndlovu and Madodana Sibanda were drinking beer together at Mhlotshana business centre.

Ndlovu left his beer under Sibanda’s watch promising to return in a short time.

Upon his return, he found that his beer had been consumed by Sibanda.

Ndlovu asked Sibanda to compensate him, but the latter refused.

This did not go down well with Ndlovu, who picked up an iron bar and struck Sibanda once on the head and he fell down.

Ndlovu was refrained from further attacking the complainant by other patrons.

The court heard that Sibanda sustained a swollen head due to the assault and was referred to hospital for medication attention.
