The ministry has announced that the heads of schools will be able to collect the results from the respective ZIMSEC Regional Offices from Monday, the 4th of December 2023.

The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec)'s 2023 Grade Seven results are out. Zimsec said students can access the results on its portal starting today while school heads will only be able to collect the results from their regional offices from Monday.

ZIMSEC chairperson Eddie Mwenje said 372 603 candidates sat for one to six subjects during the 2023 Grade 7 examinations as compared to 343 169 candidates who sat for the same examinations in 2022, showing a 7.89% increase in candidature.

"The 2023 Grade 7 examinations session has recorded a national pass rate of 45.57%. This is an increase of 5.48% in candidates' performance from last year's pass rate of 40.09%."

Mwenje attributed the improved pass rate to  the return of the "normal school calendar" after the disruptions caused by the COVID-19, and also various interventions by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in terms of teaching and learning.

"The pass rate for female candidates was 49.59% compared to 41.21% for male candidates," he said, adding that f 357 special needs candidates sat for between five and six subjects.

"Of these, 194 wrote 6 subjects and 113 with hard hearing sat for 5 subjects, yielding an overall average pass rate of 42.99% for all learners with special needs."
