ALL eyes will be on Telangana as it prepares to welcome participants from 120 nations for the 72nd edition of the world-renowned Miss World Festival set to take place in the state of Telangana, south-central India, from May 7 to 31.
The opening ceremony will be on May 10 at the Gachibowli indoor stadium.
The edition marks another milestone in the event’s rich history.
Zimbabwe will be proudly represented by Courtney Jongwe, the reigning Miss World Zimbabwe.
The 23-year-old chemical and processing engineering student at Manicaland State University has already proven her grace and determination on the global stage, having represented Zimbabwe at the 2023 Miss Earth competition.
With a passion for mental health advocacy, she aims to use this prestigious platform to amplify her message and inspire positive change.
“I am very excited and I just can’t wait to go,” an elated Jongwe told NewsDay Weekender Life & Style.
Following the success of the 71st edition, hosted in New Delhi and Mumbai, the event now moves to Telangana, known as the vaccine capital of the world.
It is a vibrant state also known for its fusion of tradition and modernity.
The global beauty pageant, which celebrates culture, purpose-driven leadership and empowerment, will run with various activities scheduled across the state.
More than 12 locations will be part of the 25 day-long event.
On the last day, the festival will culminate in a grand finale to be hosted at Hitex Exhibition Centre in the capital of Hyderabad, where the reigning Miss World, Krystyna Pyszková, of the Czech Republic, will crown her successor.
A Press conference was conducted this past Thursday (March 20), while the official announcement was made last month and presented by Julia Morley CBE, chairperson and chief executive officer of Miss World Limited, alongside Smita Sabharwal, the secretary to the government of Telangana, Tourism, Culture, Heritage and Youth Affairs Department.
“We are delighted to bring the 72nd Miss World Festival to Telangana, a state that beautifully represents its rich culture, innovation, and hospitality,” Morley said.
“Partnering the Telangana government allows us to showcase its incredible heritage and dynamic growth to a global audience.
“This collaboration is not just about hosting the Miss World Festival; it’s about empowering communities, celebrating diversity, and making a lasting impact through our shared commitment to beauty with a purpose.”
