SOUTH AFRICA-BASED Zimbabwean rapper, poet and creative writer Mercy Dhliwayo has taken a giant leap by being nominated for the Zimbabwe Hip-Hop Awards (ZHHA).
Popularly known as Sista X, the talented rapper secured a spot under the Spoken Word category.
The lyrical master is originally from Emakhandeni, Bulawayo, but is based in Polokwane.
The awards are set to be held on December 13 in Harare.
Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, Sista X expressed delight for being nominated for such a prestigious award.
“I am very honoured to have been nominated and I see this as a huge milestone in my career. I think this is what will put me on the map and I really hope that I will make the cut and win the award,” she said.
“Such news has been long awaited and I am honestly so thrilled about my hard work finally getting some recognition.”
The nomination comes after the recent release of her latest EP titled Eargasms and Sista X has just dropped a music visualiser for her song titled My Ex to celebrate the nomination.
She has also completed her book titled Bringing Us Back and has been performing and selling the book.
The talented rapper has collaborated with artistes like Joel Karabo Elliott, Mose Art, Masai Sepuru and many others.
Sista X, who is also a mother, has been making strides on her way up the hip-hop ladder, which is not an easy thing to do, especially for female rappers, while juggling work and family life.
She has high prospects for the future, with dreams of bigger collaborations.
Sista X hopes to collaborate with other artistes like Makoomba and Indigo Saint in the near future.
“A collabo with Makoomba and OGz like Munetsi and a Few Kingz will be a dream come true. I also love Mandy Mae, Indigo Saint, MUSE and Msiz Kay,” she said.
“It would be super magical to work with them. I’m also feeling Nisha T’s energy. Internationally, Narubi Selah is one of the many I imagine collaborating with.”
