BULAWAYO is in for a treat this holiday season as The Prodigals Comedy Show is set to take centre stage at Cotton Lounge on December 20.
The comedy show will bring together four of Zimbabwe's finest comedians — Chik Aljoy, General Lesley, CKanyiso Dat Guy and Zwe — for a night of unstoppable laughter.
Dubbed The Prodigals in honour of headliners Chik Aljoy and CKanyiso Dat Guy, who have made a name for themselves in South Africa and Harare, respectively, this “homecoming show” show promises an unforgettable experience for comedy enthusiasts.
Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, the event organiser and publicist Ms Mo said the show was an honour to Chik Aljoy and CKanyiso Dat Guy who worked outside Bulawayo.
“The comedy show has been dubbed The Prodigals as a way to salute two main acts Chik Aljoy and CKanyiso Dat Guy who are both plying their trades outside the City of Bulawayo, in South Africa and Harare, respectively,” she said.
“It is a show reminiscent of how families come together at the end of the year to celebrate life in general despite what individual family members would have gone through during the year. And so, it is a “homecoming” show.”
She said all the acts on the line up were doing well, adding that they were prepared to give Bulawayo the shutdown on laughs for the year.
The comedians expressed excitement for the upcoming show, highlighting that it will be the best experience for Bulawayo comedy fans.

CKanyiso Dat Guy indicated that preparations are crazy and writing new sets and rehearsing has been the hardest but he is challenging himself to give a good performance.
“The preparations are so crazy, writing new sets and rehearsing has been the hardest. But I am getting the hang of it. Just challenging myself to the limits for us to give a good performance and a great night," he said.
“Fans should expect to enjoy themselves and be ready to learn, to laugh and to have stories to tell to others for days with no end, all I am saying is let the fun begin.”
Chik Aljoy also expressed excitement, highlighting that he is ready to give Bulawayo a great night.
“Comedy fans should expect comedy, a great night of laughter and very thought-provoking perfomances. They must come ready for the night. We are ready for Bulawayo. Preparations are going well in the hands of Mo, the organiser, so it is coming well," he said.
General Lesley said he was excited to be the opening act to show the other comedians the way, noting that he watched their performances and they were great.
“Looking at the line up, it tells the whole story of what is going to happen. For me this is going to be the biggest event that is going to happen in Bulawayo, the lineup is so massive. I have watched CKanyiso and he is very good, Chik Aljoy is a beast and Zwe has been doing very well. So, anyone coming to that show should just bring a bandage and some pain relief because ribs are going to be cracking," he said.
“We were given a proper head start so we have enough time to really prepare for the show. On my side, I can confirm that we have a performance now” the general added.
Chik Aljoy is a Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) holder; and a ventriloquist and Zwe is also a BAA holder. General Lesley recently shut down the Bulawayo Theatre with his one-man show and CKanyiso is doing very well on the Harare circuit.
